Mexico:Bigger Threat to U.S. Than Iran?
As Barack Obama assumes the Office of the President of the United States, the world is waiting to see his approach to trouble spots such as Iran, Gaza, Darfur, and Afghanistan. However, with widespread police corruption, a deteriorating economy, and all out warfare among the Mexican drug cartels spreading throughout the country, America's neighbor to the south could pose its most immediate security risk.
Mexican President Felipe Calderón and his government have not been able to do much to calm the situation. The drug cartels have almost as much fire power as the military. Corruption is so widespread among the local police that it's hard to tell which police officers are upholding the law and which ones are helping break it.
Security analysts on both sides of the border are predicting that unless something drastic happens soon, the situation will inevitably spill over into the United States.
